Classic Mavericks. I’m really excited to get down there this winter and watch the big wave show. Saw this massive wall this AM and had to repost. Read the story about the drop below…

“This was in November of 2008 and Taylor Paul was charging with the boys at Mavericks,” says Todd Glaser. “He had broken his board and borrowed this board from Anthony Tashnick. Ten minutes later he scraped into this one, airdropped and made it. Well done man!! ” Photo: Glaser (via Photo Of The Day | SURFER Magazine)

Now this is a man trip.
National Geographic grantee Andrew Skurka gave up a promising future in investment banking to become a legend in the outdoor world for his record-setting, long-distance solo hikes. With stunning images and video, he guides us through his 4,700-mile, six-month trek around Alaska and the Yukon.
For all of us who constantly think of ideas for new companies… this is the right place to start. I’ve keep this image on my phone for a while and I quickly run through this filter before spending too much time on the “possibilities”. Photo credit to my buddy Sean.
What are your problems? That’s what you should be working on. Businesses are solutions to problems. Solutions come from ideas. Ideas are hypotheses. These hypotheses need to come from a defined problem. Humans have problems.
A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.

Step into liquid. Watch it
I will not be swimming to arctic waters any time soon… this scuba diver has balls of steel.
The Lions Mane Jellyfish is the largest jellyfish in the world. They have been swimming in arctic waters since before the dinosaurs (over 650 million years ago) and are among some of the oldest surviving species in the world.
The largest can come in at about 6 meters and has tentacles over 50 meters long. Pretty amazing when you think these things have been swimming around for so long.
They have hundreds of poisonous tentacles that it used to catch passing by fish. it then slowly drags in it’s prey and eats it.
That is terrifying.
never ever.

Dawn patrol surf sesh. I can’t feel my feet.
All it takes is getting out of bed:
Last night I decided that I wanted to surf this AM. This morning, warm, in bed, I almost decided that I did not. I started beating myself up about hitting snooze and realized that all it would take for me to get into the water, was to lift the covers and put my feet on the ground.
It’s like domino’s. If I just put my feet on the floor, I knew that the rest of the domino’s would eventually fall. The gnarliest step of diving into 50 degree ocean water with a 38 degree air temp (REDONK!) would just happen, I just had to get out of bed.
It took me 15 minutes to convince force myself to take that first step, but eventually my feet were on the floor, and as expected it lead to a beautiful surf sesh. While it was freezing, and I was 1 of 4 guys crazy dudes in the water, it was awesome.
Next time I’ll remember, all it takes is getting out of bed.
