Uber has some damn smart users.

Linton and Grey are in the pockets of special-interest taxi groups. This is DC corruption.bit.ly/wWHxBS via @dcist #UberDCLOVE

— Michael Watt (@wattmichael) January 13, 2012

Trying to square the “sting” of @uber_dc with DCMR Title 31 s.1299 def’n of sedan: “charges for service on the basis of time and mileage”.

— Avi Bryant (@avibryant) January 14, 2012

IANAL but it sure seems like the taxi commissioner didn’t read the law. washingtonpost.com/blogs/mike-deb…

— Avi Bryant (@avibryant) January 14, 2012

Old monopoly tries scare tactics to limit consumer choice. Shortsighted and will backfire big time. #UberDCLovedcist.com/2012/01/linton…

— Dan Leahy (@danielleahy) January 13, 2012

Mayor Vincent Gray, Protector of Incumbents Everywhere (in DC) - The Atlantic bit.ly/wUENTJ cc @Uber_DC #uberDClove

— Kathryn Minshew (@KMinshew1) January 14, 2012

Just called DC Taxi Commission to discuss #UberDCLove from #Boston and was promptly hung up on. I’ll try again Mon @Uber_DC and @austingeidt

— Patrick Campbell (@Patticus) January 13, 2012

I will never take another DC cab so long as @Uber_DC is in business. DC taxi comm comes off as a bunch of whiny, corrupt crooks #uberdclove

— DC (@dcmidnight) January 13, 2012

Was thinking about taking a taxi to dinner, but after DCTC ridiculousness (blog.uber.com/2012/01/13/an-…) using @Uber_DC is a no brainer #UberDCLove

We couldn’t do this without the love and support of the Uber Faithful. It’s the most exciting part of this job, hands down.

This morning we were surprised again by the action plan of DCTC Commissioner Ron Linton. We woke up to the news that the Commissioner held a pseudo-sting operation to ticket and impound the vehicle of one of our driver-partners, without stating which statutes Uber has violated. DCist covered the story. (via Uber Blog » An Uber Surprise in DC)

So this is my desktop wallpaper. This is the SURFER Magazine photo of the year, for obvious reasons. I think this one is here for a while.

Doing some research on surf spots in San Francisco. I had no idea Ocean Beach could go off like this…

Related: Got my wetsuit tonight. Need booties (possibly a hood) and I’m ready to rock!

You cannot accomplish something great overnight.

**Sometimes I write for you, and sometimes I write for myself. Continue reading for a self pep talk, that hopefully gets you a little fired up too :) **
Any real substantial, lasting contribution to the world, any achievement worth writing home about, or that may be written in a history book someday, takes time to develop and deliver.
The path ahead, starting is hard:
When you’re only in the second inning, the game ahead can seem daunting.
When you’re building a house, the foundation can take a long time to settle.
In a startup understanding your market (customer development) may take a full year or more.
Follow thru, eye on the prize:
It will take all 9 innings, and maybe more to win.
You can’t live in a house without… a foundation, walls, support, a roof.
No company will flourish without team, product, culture, a mission.
You’ve got to have a vision for the win, a vision for the deliverable, a vision for the future.
Focus, the details matter most:
Each run driven home.
Each nail driven in.
Each hire or customer closed.
My Dad has always said that his greatest success was in 30 years, he had 1 wife, 1 house, and 1 job. He’s a man who believes that consistency and persistance brings value.  Jumping from this to that, and losing focus will lead to a less fulfilling life and likely block you from reaching your greatest potential. He hates all the trades in sports…if he were GM of the Chargers we still might have Stan Humphries under center :) In short, avoid unnecessary change, stay the course.
Have a vision for your future and your life and your business. The path ahead will be long, and it will seem longer at the beginning. Focus on the details and follow thru as you get closer to your goal. It will become more of a reality every day and that will give you the encouragement and excitement to “keep calm and carry on”. You will not do anything that substantial without some endurance so keep cranking, it’s right ahead of you.

Just wrapped up a 5 mile run. I feel awesome.
Feeling awesome is something that I’d like to continue to do :) SO, I’m setting my single New Years resolution…
Run a minimum of 365 miles in 2012.
I’m not looking to be Mr. Marathon over here, but with a couple short runs per week, say 3 miles, and 4 miles, I feel good about life and my physical state. I’ll probably work in some other workouts (yoga, trail runs, surf) but I’m simplifying my commitment to the runs. An avg of 7 miles a week…and yes I’m on pace, did 9m this week.
A few other things I’m shooting for this year, just to get them in writing:
Get Uber to at least 20 cities (this is all about building an awesome team)
See 4 countries (see last goal :)
Spend time with Molly camping (places like Yosemite, Tahoe, Pt. Reyes, Half Moon Bay)
Get back into surfing (I need a better wetsuit for NorCal, but I’ve been away from my roots for too long)
