You cannot accomplish something great overnight.
**Sometimes I write for you, and sometimes I write for myself. Continue reading for a self pep talk, that hopefully gets you a little fired up too :) **
Any real substantial, lasting contribution to the world, any achievement worth writing home about, or that may be written in a history book someday, takes time to develop and deliver.
The path ahead, starting is hard:
- When you’re only in the second inning, the game ahead can seem daunting.
- When you’re building a house, the foundation can take a long time to settle.
- In a startup understanding your market (customer development) may take a full year or more.
Follow thru, eye on the prize:
- It will take all 9 innings, and maybe more to win.
- You can’t live in a house without… a foundation, walls, support, a roof.
- No company will flourish without team, product, culture, a mission.
You’ve got to have a vision for the win, a vision for the deliverable, a vision for the future.
Focus, the details matter most:
- Each run driven home.
- Each nail driven in.
- Each hire or customer closed.
My Dad has always said that his greatest success was in 30 years, he had 1 wife, 1 house, and 1 job. He’s a man who believes that consistency and persistance brings value. Jumping from this to that, and losing focus will lead to a less fulfilling life and likely block you from reaching your greatest potential. He hates all the trades in sports…if he were GM of the Chargers we still might have Stan Humphries under center :) In short, avoid unnecessary change, stay the course.
Have a vision for your future and your life and your business. The path ahead will be long, and it will seem longer at the beginning. Focus on the details and follow thru as you get closer to your goal. It will become more of a reality every day and that will give you the encouragement and excitement to “keep calm and carry on”. You will not do anything that substantial without some endurance so keep cranking, it’s right ahead of you.
