Open letter from @MichaelBerner to get involved in Kiva/Twitter fundraiser.

Friends,

Following on the success of Allen Burt and Ryan Graves’ Library for Laos 5-day fundraising campaign, the Change in Focus team wants to continue the trend and help another in need.

After a trip to Cambodia this past spring, our eyes were opened to the tragedy of their past, the hardships of their present, but the hope for their future.  They are a country filled with pride, joy and eagerness to succeed, but tragically empty on available resources.

We need your help to lend to one entrepreneur; not a large sum, as only $25 will do.  But this nominal amount will help Moeun Sory buy fish to sell to local villagers.  It will also help her husband enter the business to further their families success.

We have the ability to empower one person to help her community and better her family.

Here’s her story:

Moeun Sory is a 26-year-old fish vendor and the mother of three school-aged children. Every day in early morning, Moeun Sory and her husband always go to buy fish from the fishermen and they hurry up and bring their fish by motorbike to the market for resale.  In addition, Moeun Sory’s husband also uses his existing motor to pick up passengers for fees. Moeun Sory is leading her investment more smoothly. She has a lot of regular customers who buy and eat her fish. She hopes to be able to look for extra income by using a Kiva loan to purchase a large quantity of fish to sell. She proposes to use the remainder of the loan to purchase equipment for her husband to begin fishing.

Moeun Sory does not receive a dollar until her entire loan request is met.  Let’s not delay any further in helping her help herself, family and community.
